Bio
This is Allison - owner and founder of RockLove, an independent NYC designer label. RockLove is a jewelry brand which incorporates edgy rock ‘n roll gusto with femmy vintage glam; each collection is inspired by femme fatales in different eras. It is all handmade original designs - the only purchased components are miscellany like clasps and string. I feel this makes RockLove unique in a world of repurposed, mass produced, and assembled jewelry lines.

A bit of background on the name and anthem:

“RockLove” is an expression used in the alternative performance community that symbolizes a mutual respect and inspiration between artists. Emerging in the past ten years, the way in which fans experience a show has been revolutionized – the concept of audience participation has become the primary focus of the concert experience. Embraced by youth and adults alike, it is an anthem of artistic unity, driven by the desire to make each performance more interactive and accessible. Fans transcend their traditional role of passive observer and are invited to actively participate in a communal exchange of creative energy, amplifying the convergence of personal expression. RockLove signifies a devotion to the creative community and pays homage to those who strive to inspire; the name is a reminder of the positive influences of an open and innovative mind.

And a little about myself:

In university, I studied art history and studio art, mostly enjoying sculpture, with a minor in psychology. Being a very small private school with an art department notorious for its post modern course load, there were no fashion, clothing, or jewelry design classes offered. I was allowed; however, to develop my own jewelry curriculum and start my own studio under the generous mentoring of some dedicated professors - something for which I am very grateful. My more formal training was during a semester in Florence, Italy, where I was lucky enough to work as a full time jeweler’s apprentice in a functioning studio. There I studied with numerous artists, and even under the tutorage of a Brandemarte sculptor - learning everything in Italian. Since then I've continued my study and work here in the states, with my own studio in NYC (where each and every one of your pieces is lovingly made).

Being an avid student of art history, I’ve always been interested in different genres of fashion and when they repeat. Victorian revival, deco and cabaret, the rockabilly scene, gothic mourning… I’m inspired by images and literary characters depicting strong women (my “femme fatales”), and I like to explore them in RockLove’s collections. And though I am very aware of what is in style, RockLove doesn’t follow the trends - it's inspired by them. I feel that our customers are drawn to our jewelry because they feel it expresses their own interests instead of trying to sway them into what’s fashionable.

Other than that, I'm a musician and a workaholic with a hand-fasted boyfriend/fiance, a long haired German Shepherd puppy, and two very well trained jumbo albino ratties. Ask me about anything; I love to hear from customers and fans - some of the best ideas come from you!
